Behold, Bobonot to Tambobong barangay road, National Road

With the fast actions of Cong. Jesus “Boying” Celeste in the First District, the proposal on the conversion of the Bobonot to Tambobong Barangay Road is now on its final approval with the solons. This vital change brings hope and excitement to the residents of barangay traversed by this road. Business opportunities will dawn right to the very eyes of the people. This also paves the emergence of a tourism eco zone, chances are.

Before, the area was sluggish to progress, only limited basic services and facilities were extended because it is far and inaccessible; though passable, travel time is slow. Infra funds for road development have been pegged regularly but do not satisfy much the purpose, because local finances are limited in the local government. Now, with this significant development of this 21 kilometer road, the barangays of Bobonot, Magsaysay, Malacapas, Uli, Osmeña and Tambobong will take a big leap towards development. This time the maintenance of the road access shall be shouldered by the national government. It is not that we pass burden to them, but it is just that funding in this level is more accessible and available. Kudos, to the people behind this endeavor.

DASOL FIGHTS DENGUE

One of the most fatal diseases not only in the Philippines but in the whole world is the dengue fever. This disease is transmitted to people through the infected female Aedes mosquito.

Right now, there are 2.5 billion people in the world who are in danger of dengue fever. Out of 100 million dengue cases each year, there is a total of 5% mortality. In the Philippines alone, 167 die out of 15,000 morbidity.

Some of the reasons of the prevalence of dengue are the following; population growth, pollution, climate change, and lack of cooperation among the community. If people will not cooperate in the prevention of this disease, we will be expecting more cases and death caused by dengue.

The Department of Health is again doing its part to control dengue fever, but this requires collaboration efforts among various agencies, Local Government Units, NGOs, and all sectors of society in order that it will become a success. One of its moves is to disseminate information on dengue to the community so they may support the promotion of the prevention and control of dengue.

In this connection, the Municipality of Dasol through the Rural Health Unit supports the DOH program which is to fight dengue. Since one of the priorities of the Administration is the health of its people, it sees to it that the spread of this deadly disease will be prevented. To eradicate or minimize further the Outbreak of dengue, James Soriano and the General services with the RHU staff headed by Dr. Genaro M. Merio-Municipal Health Officer, with the cooperation of the Department of Education headed by Dr. Marilou J. Casing (Dasol District Supervisor) are conducting a misting activity in all public and private schools within the municipality of Dasol since 2008. This is because the children stay longer in school and they are prone to mosquito bites.

The 4S are preventive measures that help us fight dengue.

Search and destroy breeding places of dengue-causing mosquitoes;

Self protection measures such as wearing of long-sleeve shirts and long pants and using mosquito repellants;

Seek early consultation when early signs such as fever and rashes set in; and

Say No to indiscriminate fogging except for outbreak.

Be an advocate against dengue!!!

Sangguniang Kabataan: Gabi ng Pagtitipon

The youth are hope of the land” said the great hero Jose Rizal. Nowadays, the young ones should not only engage in school, sports, computers and the like but should be involved with social gatherings to uplift their social being.

Last January 1, 2011 the Sangguniang Kabataan of Dasol celebrated a night affair, Gabi ng Kabataan with dances and contests.  With these activities, inculcated in their minds and hearts implanted the spirit of togetherness and cooperation. Politics should not have a place but a responsible activism is better. These green horns of today are the future leaders of tomorrow; they should be put in the right track for the activities they are involved in today, are the same ones they would be engaged in the future.

LGU- Dasol supports DOLE programs

With the deep desire of the municipality to help the families affected by the recent typhoon Juan that ravaged the town, uprightly it accepted the  Emergency Employment Program which the Department of Labor proposed. The LGU will administer emergency projects like clearing of roads, canals, and the like, also rehabilitation of school buildings where each municipality, will enroll 50 laborers,  with daily rate of Php 240.00/day for thirty (30) days. The hired workers are the most affected by the disaster, thereby the purpose of this program is to at least augment the income as their livelihood was displaced by the disaster.

Beating the eve of Christmas, the first tranche of salary release was December 24, 2010, and the second one, done by the 15th of January  2011.

Joining in the release too are the stipends of the students enrolled in the SPES (Special Program on Employment of Students) under joint program of Eastern Osmeña Fishermen’s Association and DOLE.  Sharing of salary is at 60/40 basis where the 60% is shouldered by the association and 40% by the DOLE. Said students earned their money by working with the association during summer that instead of being idle, their time was spent wisely.

There are more Dole programs stored for implementation like grant for coops and association, SPES also for tertiary during Christmas season and also career counseling.

Women's Month Celebration 2011

First ever in Dasol

Paying tribute to the ones we consider “Ilaw ng Tahanan”, the first-ever Women’s Month Celebration in the municipality of Dasol was held on March 31, 2011 at the Orbos Gym.  Spearheaded by the lone lady Councilor Honorable Guendolin C. Bustamante, women from different sectors of the municipality participated and joined the celebration.

Recognizing the very important role every woman plays, Councilor Bustamante exerted all efforts to make the affair successful and meaningful.  Speakers from the Regional and Provincial DSWD offices in the person of Madam Edith Gorospe  and Madam Mona Alavazo respectively, were invited to lecture on the rights of women.  At the end of the day, participants went home with so much joy and awe as they brought home with them their prizes from the raffle draw.

Thanks to Madam Weewee for giving this special treat to the women of Dasol.  We are looking forward for another grander celebration next year!

Farmers & Fisherfolks Day

“ENCORE!         ENCORE!          ENCORE!”

This is the resounding clamor of everyone who participated and enjoyed the Farmers and Fisher Folks Day conducted last March 10, 2011, in celebration of the centennial and annual town fiesta of Dasol. It was the first of its kind of activity, aside from the - Trade Fair done before.. The event was fun- filled, commencing with the bles- sing of animal pets, followed by  showcase of the largest, longest, biggest, heaviest product so named the Agri “Pinaka”, from crops, livestock and fishery products. The traditional amusement games, tupa and erelay baboy were revived too. Gracing the occasion were the regional and provincial directors of the Department of Trade and Industry with the interest to identify to would be one town one product (OTOP) of Dasol. Kudos! to the Aggies of Dasol. We hope to see more of these activities in the future.

DOSOL NEWSLETTER LAUNCHED

How the publication was named?

Why “Dosol”? It would have been easier to go by the regular title of publication these days be it “herald”, “tribune”, bulletin and so on. It would have been better to conform to the norm in this way. But why do we dare to be particular?

As we, the staff, brainstormed on what would be the name of the newsletter, we wanted something that would pertain to the character and something that holds true in the place, our town, our home.

Dasol got its name from the medicinal herb called Dosol which abounds in the place that cures cuts and wounds. As we know, Dosol is the original name of the town.

Just like the name, this newsletter is original too, because it is first and new, a window of traditions and projects blend, a new beginning for the Dasolinians to hold on after a hundred years.   Thus, this paper is now named DOSOL, encapsulating the Dasolinians character of a high end vision.

New Municipal Park revives traditions

By the construction of the New Municipal Building paves the emergence of a new municipal park, too. It has been many years passed that a new outlook for the Dasolinians dawned.  The new park serves now as a place for convergence for locals, a place for relaxation, appreciation and a meeting place for camaraderie.  In the end of the year 2010, while welcoming the New Year and the 100 years of Dasol, significant and magnificent events for the municipality happened here. This structure witness of the strong, warm and joyful being of the Dasolinians.

Dasolinians enjoyed every event, like the overwhelming varieties of native cakes symbolizing the oneness of the people, the breathtaking excitement of the fireworks showing the residents of Dasol are appreciative, the heartwarming messages and the symbolic centennial ceremonies, the park is the solid ground for commitment and purposeful vision.

Indeed however, the togetherness of the people of Dasol is a strong rampart to preserve and protect the park, let us do our share by applying responsible garbage management, smoke free area, and void of vandalism and promotion of total well being of the Dasolinians. “Let us respect and protect our park at all times, the face of our town and ours too.”

Bayan kong sinilangan

Pook ng Kalayan

Dasol, Pangasinan

Tangi kong Tahanan

Ang malawak mong bukirin

Hinahaplos ng sariwang hangin

Sa saliw ng ‘yong karagatan

Sa Maaliwalas mong kalangitan.

(Chorus)

Halina, kababayan

Tinig iparinig

Damdami’y ihayag

Abutin ang pangarap

Pagmamahalan, pagtutulungan

Kapayapaan at Kaayusan

Hangarin nati’y kamtan

Tungo sa kaunlaran

Sa paanan ng bundok

Bukid, gubat, look at ilog

Kayamanang handog ng Diyos

Pagsusumikapan nating lubos.

(Chorus)

Sulong na, aking bayan

Pagkakaisa, pagdadamayan

Mithiin na wagas

Susi sa Pag-unlad

Dasol, Pangasinan

Pangalang busilak, maayang bukas

Ngayon, magpakailanman

Bayan ko, ikaw lamang.

CENTENNIAL MESSAGE

During the Centennial Day Celebration on January 1, 2011

By: Mayor Noel A. Nacar

Distinguished Guests…..

Ladies and Gentlemen, Kailiac nga Taga …..Dasol.

Today, we are celebrating the 100 years founding anniversary of our beloved town Dasol as a municipality with a government of its own.

Our town is indeed a blessed town more than what we physically see now.  In 100 years of its existence, as a municipality itself, the full potential of becoming a Great Salt City if not a very progressive city remains untapped.

Nagpintas ken nagbaknang iti natural resources daytoy ay-ayaten tayo nga ili ti DASOL…

We have the longest and most accessible beaches in the entire region; the highest quality salt that reaches as far as Japan, a forbidden island named “Tugase” – which will soon tickle tourist adventurers.

But before we will start large scale development, let me first emphasize to you the importance of social preparation. Daytoy ili tayo nga Dasol, mabigbig koma gapu ti kinatalna ken kinaurnos na.

.....We cannot afford to be tainted with negative issues like drugs….Nagbassit tayo la ngaruden adda pay maiyenvolve iti drugs. Kasta met dagiti pagraragsakan nga kunkuna ti dadduma.

Saanko ibagbaga nga ipasardeng dagita ngem maregulate da koma tapno saanda nga agbalin nga balay iti krimen ken panagaapa.

By next year 2012, we will try to LEAP big….agtitinnulong tayo koma kakabsat ken kailian.

Dasol will soon be launched as Historical Destination, because in the 40’s, our very own Dasol Bay was the host of the naval wars between Japan and the United States of America.  In fact, these events were recorded in the naval archives of the USA and a book was written by an Australian writer which will soon exclusively sell in our place. The relic of this legendary warship called USS Harder still lies within our municipal waters. (Naggasat tayo ketdin.) It was officially recorded, but the facts are yet to be found. Imagine our town, if we will Host a world diving competition to find the “greatest warship of America”, divers from UK, Australia, Canada and Asia will proliferate in our Bay. And when they come…….they cannot bring-in with them everything……Ditoy da nga mangan…….Ditoy da nga maturog……Ditoy da nga gumatang ti masapul da…….

Ngem iti dakkel a saludsod…..nakasagana tayo kadin? Adda ngata pagturugan da? Panganan?.....wenno paggatangan iti souvenir items?....Adda kadi nakasagana nga tricycle driver nga agibaga iti maysa nga turista, “sir” “ma’am” “you want me to take you to the diving site?”…..Adda met ngata iti bangkero nga makaibaga, “how long will you take your dive?”

Ababa nga ingles, adu nga isem, ken napudot nga panagbisita….Dagitoy dagiti banag nga mabalin tayon marugiananen itan.

Daytoy umay nga tawen padasen tayo iti agtrabaho kas maysa nga bagi.  Padasen tayo no kaya tayo nga sumabay iti agos ti panawen wenno diay kunkuna nga “Globalization”…… we will think and desire globally but we first act locally…..

We will revive Pistay Dayat….and host Asin Festival. We will tell to the whole world that we have “something” that you do not have…..

We will make use of the God-given potentials in the tourism industry.  We will build partnerships from among us….We will empower Dasolinians….We will support and develop local industries like salt making, wine making and the like….We will make our agricultural lands productive through technology transfer of modern yet organic way of farming.

I urged the Sangguniang Bayan to enact laws which will protect and develop our resources   from the uplands to the resources of the seas…..Enabling law which will ensure Dasolinians to get prime works; an every investment that will soon enter in our town.

We will also do our assignments in the LGU. We will move ahead of the required time…..We will lobby to the national government offices for possible funding of essential projects like the national highway from Bobonot to Tambobong, a seaport or wharf or even a declaration of a Tourism Economic Zone! Because these projects, are essential elements to realize our dream to become a number one tourist destination here in Western Luzon.

Kakabsat ken Kailiac, we can never be complacent forever.  100 years is enough! Sooner or later, my term as a Mayor will soon end… the young ones will become parents, senior members of our society will soon leave us…… and what shall we do?

Our town Dasol is crying for 100 years now and begging us……when will you start to find your soul at the very heart of your seas?!........Your lofty mountains, the embedded gems, and the landscape of caves…… when will you capitalize on the treasure that was given to you 100 years ago!

Now, maybe I possess the greatest voice not because I am a Mayor or holding this microphone….but I know many Dasolinians also desire to experience to have a better place to live in…. A better life to spend with their love ones, a voice that can be heard…….

Let us not leave this occasion as just an ordinary program, but let us roll our sleeves for work hold together for unity and with genuine love and concern for others, we will get the blessing and abundance of God……..

God Bless Us All!

DASOLINIANS join Motorcade

To show their cooperation and full support to the centennial celebration of Dasol, hundreds of Dasolinians joined the motorcade held on Saturday, January 1, 2011.

The motorcade, which is one of the activities highlighting the centennial celebration, started from the Dasol Central

School quadrangle through the Poblacion area to Bobonot boundary arch to Macalang and ended up to the town plaza. Plying through the major thoroughfares of the municipality, the motorcade was successfully done as Dasolinians from all walks of life eagerly and excitedly joined in and became part of Dasol’s 100 years celebration.

The Birthday Bash: Dasol Senior Citizens

With the initiatives of the Offices of the Mayor, the Social Welfare and Development and all concerned agencies, monthly birthdays of the senior citizens are celebrated. Bottom line of this activity is to give these senior institutions experience the excitement and joy being the kings and queens of the day. They are given “free body wellness treat” from hair spas to foot spas plus a lunch with bonding with their contemporaries.

Sometimes, this sector of society is not regarded much anymore for many say they already used up their time and their value being the old ones have dwindled.  But don’t we know these grandpas and grandmas were the ones who laid the foundation of what we are now.

To all lolos and lolas of Dasol, Happy Birthday!

SANGGUNIANG BAYAN (SB) DRAFT MUNICIPAL ENVIRONMENT CODE

For purposes relevant to the protection, conservation, utilization and management of the environment specifically along the areas of land, water and air, the Sangguniang Bayan of Dasol, Pangasinan is on the process of drafting the Municipal Environment Code of the municipality.

Draft Ordinance no 2011-003, “An Ordinance enacting the Municipal Environment Code of the municipality of Dasol, Pangasinan” had already gone through a series of committee hearings and will soon be scheduled for public hearing.

Authored by Councilor Nehemias L. Vidal, Chairman SB Committee on Environmental Protection, co-authored by Councillor Guendolin C. Bustamante, Chairman, SB Committee on Rules and Ordinances, said Environment Code will be very beneficial to the municipality of Dasol, as it will ensure the protection, conservation, utilization and management of our resources.  Thus, upon approval of the said ordinance, full and proper implementation of the same is expected by the members of the legislative body.

A True Christian

Many are blessed with so much blessing in life. They have all the means but no will for others. Wealth acquired are but decorations here on earth, but we can’t bring these to where we go when we die. Few can understand the art of giving service to others. They don’t know that Jesus came on earth to serve not to be served. A little thing that we can give to others is a great thing that we have done for the glory of God. Many are Christians but few understand the meaning of it. To be a Christian is not to be prayerful only, but also to help others in need.  Share the blessing God has given you to the needy, to the poor, and God will give you more in abundance.

Mrs. Clavelina S. Nacar whom I have known in her name BABY is a person who seldom goes to mass but with a big heart to her fellow Dasolinians. She is a Christian not in name but in what she heartily give and do to others and for others.  In an interview with her she said, “When my car stops and somebody knocks at my car and I see a child begging for alms, I give her although I know this is “MODUS OPERANDI” of the syndicate because my giving will save the child from being punished. If an old man or woman knocks at the window of my car, I give just the same, because I know they could no longer earn for their living, they really need to be helped, but if a mother carrying a child knocks, I won’t give because I don’t want her to use her child for begging. We give, we help and we receive more in abundance in return.” This is Baby Nacar, simple, humble and always with open arms to all. She is great….indeed….A CHRISTIAN. Her ongoing project is the cooperative that offers a lot of help for the people of Dasol. She believes in the saying, “The more you give, the more you receive.”

TAKBO PARA SA ARKO

The noble cause of raising funds for the construction of a boundary arch in barangay Macalang, this municipality had inspired and encouraged Dasolinians to join the “Takbo Para sa Arko” fun run held on Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Participated in by children, youth and adults alike, the “Takbo Para Sa Arko” was successfully undertaken as runners routed from the boundary arch in barangay Bobonot, two rounds around Poblacion area and ended in front of the new municipal hall building as finish line.

Spearheaded by no less than the very energetic and athletic Principal of Eguia Elementary School, Mr. Eric Soriano, the event signals the construction of the projected arch in barangay Macalang...another worthy endeavour of us all Dasolinians!
