Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra: LIVE in Dasol
The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) is the country’s leading orchestra, and is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region.
Formally inaugurated on May 15, 1973 as the CCP Philharmonic Orchestra, the PPO was created to assist artists performing at the CCP Theater. Its first music director was Prof. Luis Valencia with Julian Quirit as concertmaster. In 1979, then-First Lady Imelda Romualdez M
arcos asked Prof. Oscar C. Yatco to recognize the orchestra, and three years later, the PPO was born with a new vision – a national orchestra to be ranked among the best in the world.
To date, the orchestra has performed with many of the world’s renowned conductors, such as Mendi Rodan, Peiro Gamba, Enrique Batis, Sebastian Bereau, and Nicholas Koch. It has also performed with local and international artists such as Van Cliburn, Renata Tebaldi, Judith Engel, Anthony Camden, David Benoit, Cecile Licad, Raul Sunico and Lea Salonga.
On March 8, 2011, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra performs live in Dasol!
With the combined efforts of the Local Government Unit of Dasol (LGU-Dasol) and the hardworking men and women behind the 2011 Dasol Town Fiesta and Centennial Celebrations, the PPO will serenade the Dasolinians with a dynamic repertoire of works by the masters, as among the historic highlights of the town’s 100th birthday.
